Dr Farzad Pakdel
Short Biography

Dr Farzad Pakdel is associate professor of ophthalmology, oculo-facial plastic surgery in Tehran University of medical sciences. He completed fellowship in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery in IUMS (2008-2010) and oculofacial courses in Amsterdam University (AMC) 2010, Eyesthetica (Los Angeles) (2013) and UCLA (Los Angeles) (2013).
Dr Pakdel is an active researcher in the clinical, basic science and translational studies in the field. He has interest in novel diagnostic and surgical methods in thyroid eye disease, endoscopic orbital and lacrimal surgeries, orbital inflammatory diseases, orbital, complex peri-orbital-facial tumors, orbito-facial trauma and complex reconstructive surgeries, regenerative medicine, regenerative medicine. He has published over 80 peer reviewed articles, books, book chapters and international and national guidelines. He has trained many residents, oculofacial plastic fellows, observers from different disciplines.
Dr Pakdel is an active board member of several prestigious world class societies and institutes including International Thyroid Eye Disease Society (ITEDS), International Orbital Society (iOS), active member of the American society of ophthalmic plastic & reconstructive surgery (ASOPRS), Asia-Pacific society of ophthalmic plastic & reconstructive surgery (APSOPRS), Asia-Pacific society of ophthalmic Trauma (APOTS), and ARVO.
Farzad is highly experienced in dealing with complex cases including orbital and eyelid tumors, complex trauma and fracture cases, thyroid eye disease, orbital inflammatory disease, complex and complicated aesthetic intervention. He founded endoscopic oculofacial surgery sections and plastic and cosmetic and in Farabi hospital as an academic unit for academic practice and research. He practices a wide range of oculo-facial functional and cosmetic procedure. He was the vice chair of research in eye research center, Tehran University of Medical in 2015-2017.
Dr Pakdel has been elected as member of national Mucormycosis committee (Septemeber2021-2023). He has been actively engaged in treatment and control of mucormycosis in COVID19 era. He is a past director and member of national mucormycosis committee, founded Orbital Mucormycosis clinic in Emam Hospital Complex as the largest University based hospital, policymaking, and writing mucormycosis guideline.
He has conducted many workshops and symposia and has been invited as scientific director, chair or guest speaker in over 250 world class international and more than 300 domestic conferences.
He is an active editorial board member in a couple of credited journals as associate editor in Frontiers of ophthalmology journal, associate editor in Journal of ophthalmology and vison research (JOVR), deputy editor in chief in Indian journal of clinical and experimental ophthalmology (IJCEO) and as a member of editorial board of several dozen other journals.
Farzad has received many academic and research awards including IRAVO award for the best research 2024 second rank, Shams award for the best article award in ophthalmology festival 2024, IESRF International publication awards for his influential works in research and publication (2021 and 2022), the best article award in Shams ophthalmology festival 2015, IRAVO award for the best research 2019, best book chapter in Shams ophthalmology festival 2021, IESRF award for Best Guest Editorial-IJCEO, IRAVO award for the best research 2010, first rank of Sicca award in 2010, IRAVO awards for the best research 2015.
