Bio-sketch – Dr Sandeep Uppal, Singapore

Dr Sandeep Uppal is an International Board for Certification in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery certified ENT Surgeon Trained in Facial Plastic Surgery. Dr Sandeep served as the Head of Department of Otolaryngology, and Head of Facial Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Service at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Singapore from 2019 to 2024. He founded the Facial plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Service at KTPH and served as its head till 2024. With over 32 years of experience as an ENT-Head and Neck Surgeon and 14 years of post-Fellowship experience in Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr Sandeep is known for his versatile skills in performing a wide range of surgical and non-surgical Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery procedures.
Dr Sandeep completed his specialist training in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery from the University of Delhi, India. He then completed his Specialist Registrar Training in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in the United Kingdom and was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Training in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery by the Intercollegiate Board of the Royal College of Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He then underwent a dedicated one-year Fellowship of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery and trained under some of the world’s most renowned Facial Plastic Surgeons in the United States and Europe. He also underwent a one-year Fellowship in Advanced Rhinology conducted by the Royal college of Surgeons in England. Today, he is widely recognized as an expert in his field and has performed thousands of successful procedures for clients from all over the world.
In addition to his work as a surgeon, Dr Sandeep is also a dedicated educator and researcher. Dr Sandeep served a one-year fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery conducted by the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery. He then completed the certification process of the International and European Boards of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He was awarded the Claus D. Walter Award for Academic Excellence by the International Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2012. He was awarded a PhD by the University of Leeds, UK in 2012 for discovering the genetic and molecular basis of the Pachydermoperiostosis, a hereditary syndrome that leads to facial deformity. His research led to a first author publication in the journal Nature Genetics.
He has published numerous scientific papers and book chapters on Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and regularly presents his work at international conferences, courses, workshops, symposia and live surgery courses all over the world. He is the Section Editor for Rhinology and Facial Plastic Surgery Section of the book ‘Symptom Oriented Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery’ and has written several book chapters. He has reviewed scientific papers for reputed journals like Facial Plastic Surgery Journal, Dermatology and Plastic and Aesthetic Research
He is the Course Director of internationally acclaimed course ‘Eleven Days of Facial Plastic Surgery’, an annual fresh frozen cadaveric dissection course on Advanced Rhinoplasty, Facial Rejuvenation Surgery and Facial Fracture and Soft Tissue Reconstruction. Through his courses Dr Sandeep has trained more than 500 surgeons from across the world in a wide range of Facial Plastic Surgery techniques. Dr Sandeep is most proud of his teaching, having contributed to the training of over 500 medical students, 25 residents and numerous visiting fellows in Facial Plastic Surgery.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Sandeep is an active member of several international professional organizations, including the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, and the Singapore Society of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. He is the Vice President of Pan Asia Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Vice Chairman for Reconstructive Surgery for Facial Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, India.
He is the Chairman of the Facial Plastic Surgery Section of the Chapter of Otolaryngology, College of Surgeons, Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He is national examiner and member of examination development committee for Otorhinolaryngology exit examination, Ministry of Health, Singapore and served as Adj. Asst. Professor in Otolaryngology at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
Dr Sandeep is an Executive Board Member of the International Board for Certification in facial Plastic Surgery as well as International Federation of Facial Plastic Surgery Societies.
